The Twilight Craze

Yes, I read them. I read them quickly.  I was expecting nothing short of amazing. After all it seems to have swept the nation's girls (preteen up through middle age).  But somehow the series has disappointed me.  I was definitely expecting better writing. Stephanie Meyers leaves something to be desired. After I finished New Moon I felt like it took Stephanie Meyers about 400-pages to say something that a better writer could have said in 100.  But this post wasn't written to bash on Meyers' way with words.

Rather, the biggest bone I have to pick with the series is that even though it drew me in while I was reading it, after I was done it still felt like something was missing.  I'm not even sure what it was, maybe just that the series is entirely predictable and I absolutely hated the Edward-leaving-to-save-Bella-from-herself plot.  It has been done before. Many, many times before.

I hated that after he left Bella became a shell of herself. She barely even managed to do the minimal things to get through the day.  I know that post break-up people can get depressed. They can withdraw a little from friends and family.  Maybe not want to be around people as much or have as much to say to people.  But I resent the idea that a girl cannot live without a guy.

Have you ever read a book or seen a movie that was highly regarded and been less than enthused with it?
