"Album Only"

One of my biggest irks about iTunes is that I thought the whole "draw" of it was that you didn't have to purchase a whole CD and you could just buy a few songs if you didn't want the rest of the songs on the CD and save yourself $10. Well, it seems that often with soundtracks and compilations, they will only allow you to purchase a couple of songs individually, and the rest you must purchase the entire CD to actually get. This frustrates me to no end!

Tonight while Zach and I were watching Just Like Heaven there was a song by Amos Lee titled "Colors" but it was a different version than what is on his cd. Come to find out it is his acoustic version and can only be found on the soundtrack to the movie, and the song is album only!

Have you experienced this frustration with iTunes? Do you know why they do this? Or do you think it is simply to try to get you to buy the whole cd?

I don't know why they do it, but Zune does the exact same thing and it drives me NUTS!!! I have several songs where I want only the one song, not a whole stinking album. Does Amazon do this, too? If they do, I'm wondering if maybe it has something to do with the record companies.

@mindy: I think Amazon does do it, too. But it seems like not quite as much as iTunes. You're probably right about the record companies, but it's still really annoying!
